About

astrantia hadspen blood

I’ve been gardening for the better part of the past 30 years. In 2013, after more than 20 years in law publishing, I decided to turn a part-time passion into a full-time activity and left my job as editor of Britain’s longest-running magazine for solicitors.

While continuing to work as a London-based legal affairs journalist, I travelled around Europe, visited gardens, and spent a few winter seasons in the Alps, having qualified as a ski instructor in 2015.

In September 2018, I signed up with Capel Manor to formally train as a garden designer. Going back to college allowed me to crystallise the experience I have acquired by working in gardens hands-on. It has broadened my knowledge, opened my eyes further, and consolidated my approach to gardening and garden design.

The garden design business I now run professionally is all the more informed for it, delivering gardens that embrace naturalistic planting while providing spaces for people to enjoy, from family gardens and vegetable patches to entertainment spaces and contemplative retreats.

I now run a wider range of services, from consultancy and refresh services to full design and planting. So whether you are just looking for input and new ideas from a professionally qualified garden designer, for a new planting scheme, or for a complete redesign, I can help. Drop me a line using the form below to start with, giving a brief description of your garden and what you would be hoping for:

  1. Good for you and I hope you have a great time doing so. That’s a lovely part of the world you’re now in. Many years ago I drove Norway through to Finland.
