Whitby Abbey’s Stations of the Crafts

A heritage trail consisting of five linked Stations around the Whitby Abbey Headland referencing some of the crafts and trades that contributed to the town’s prosperity through the ages.

Each Station provides a viewing platform with seating, shaped and made of material relating to the craft or trade represented (check overleaf for details about each Station).

The trail can be accessed from the harbour, from the yards in Whitby East, from the recreation grounds to the south, and from the two abbey car parks.

Take the slow route on your way to the abbey, reflect on the work of the men, women and children who made Whitby famous, pause to enjoy the views of the river Esk, of the harbour, or of the Yorkshire Moors in the far distance. And perhaps extend your journey to the coastal path and the Cleveland Way along the top of the cliffs.
